Uýra: The Rising Forest

Uýra: A Retomada da Floresta
Director:
72',

The film tells the story of Uýra Sodoma, a trans and Indigenous artist who lives and travels through the Amazon rainforest. Uýra is an environmental activist and performance artist with a background in biology. Using their own body as a canvas, they perform in close connection with nature to highlight both personal and collective processes of transformation. Uýra’s journey sheds light on the environmental destruction, systemic racism, and transphobia faced by Indigenous communities in Brazil, while also exploring themes of identity, resistance, and healing. Throughout the film, Uýra sees the forest, the river, and Indigenous wisdom as teachers, and through them, builds connections with young people—helping them reconnect with their roots, their bodies, and their communities.
