Miguel's War

128',

Michel Jleilaty was born in 1963 in Lebanon. In his youth, he was marginalized by his family and society because of his sexual identity, and in 1983, he joined the Lebanese Civil War to prove he was a “real man.” However, the war experience led him into deep trauma, and he eventually emigrated to Spain. In Spain, he adopted a new identity under the name Miguel and tried to live a free life. Yet, without confronting his past, he could not find inner peace. After 37 years, he decides to return to Lebanon and begins to face his past together with director Eliane Raheb. The film deeply explores Miguel’s inner journey and process of making peace with himself by blending documentary, animation, theater, and archival footage.
