Gwen Haworth, a filmmaker from Vancouver, documents her gender transition using interviews, animation, old family footage, and voicemail, partly through the voices of her anxious but loving family, best friend, and wife. Haworth’s feature debut, which opens the door to a new era of trans people telling their own stories, is an autobiography that, unlike the often marginalized depictions of trans figures in mainstream media, explores the strengthening bonds and relationships of a family overcoming prejudices about gender and sexuality.
