They/Them follows trans climber Lor Sabourin on a deeply personal and physical journey through the sandstone canyons of northern Arizona. Sabourin’s climbs, search for identity, and resilience lie at the heart of the documentary. The film closely documents the climber’s attempt to complete the challenging traditional climbing route called “Cousin of Death,” along with the obstacles faced throughout the process. It also explores Sabourin’s experiences with gender identity and how that identity is reflected within the climbing community.
