Postcard to Daddy is a documentary directed by Michael Stock. The film tells the story of the 25 years following Michael’s childhood sexual abuse by his father. In search of inner peace, Michael tries to understand what happened and its effects on each family member through conversations with his family and friends and his own reflections. Old family film clips appear to show a happy family, but excerpts from Michael’s first feature film reveal his extreme adult life and lifelong trauma. The film focuses on Michael confronting his father and coming to terms with his past. Despite the intense subject matter, the documentary conveys an atmosphere of hope and love for life rather than anger and hatred. Michael’s aim is not to accuse, but to understand.
