In a Whisper is an autobiographical documentary that follows two Cuban women directors, Heidi Hassan and Patricia Pérez Fernández, who have been friends since childhood. After leaving their homeland, they each migrate to Europe via different paths—Heidi to Switzerland and Patricia to Spain. After years of silence, they begin exchanging video letters, sharing their lives and emotions. These intimate correspondences, combined with archival footage, old photographs, and personal narration, weave together themes of migration, friendship, motherhood, a love for cinema, and the pursuit of freedom.
