Dog Valley is a documentary directed by Dave Lindsay that centers on a harrowing hate crime that took place in the state of Utah, USA. The film tells the story of 32-year-old Gordon Ray Church, who was brutally tortured and murdered in 1988. Ray Church was targeted for being gay and lost his life in a predominantly Mormon, conservative region due to his sexual orientation. As the documentary traces the crime committed in the desolate expanse of Dog Valley, the silence of the landscape becomes a haunting echo of delayed justice. At the same time, it sheds light on the fear, invisibility, and trauma experienced by the LGBTQ+ community in Utah in the aftermath of the murder.
