This documentary follows the filmmaker Faya’s journey as she uncovers the mysterious past of Neirud, a figure she had known in her childhood as an “aunt,” and explores her relationship with the family. Between the 1960s and 1980s, Neirud worked as a wrestler in underground all-women circuses in Brazil, performing under the stage name “Gorilla Woman.” Although this name reflected the racial stereotypes of the time, the circus life offered Neirud a rare sense of independence as a Black woman in that era.
