“Simply Rob”” (2011) presents a portrait of Bronx-based poet and activist Rob Vassilarakis. At a young age, Rob was estranged from his family due to his sexual identity and found himself trapped in a life of hatred, drug addiction, and hardship. In 1993, at the age of 22, he was diagnosed with HIV. After years of rehabilitation, he continues to inspire and educate others today through his powerful storytelling and honesty. The documentary, through Rob’s poetry, weaves a narrative of self-acceptance and learning to live with HIV, enriched with deeply meaningful words and striking visuals.”
